Wild Ginger
Asarum canadense - Not related to culinary ginger, although it does have a scent that is similar, Wild Ginger is an excellent ground cover often found in woodland areas. The flowers are actually hidden underneath the leaves at the base of the plant. Wild Ginger attracts a very specific pollinator, the Pipevine Swallowtail Butterfly.
Space 12-24” apart.
Tip: Combines well with a host of other natives, such as Maidenhair Fern, Lady Fern, Ostrich Fern, Jacob's Ladder and Wild Blue Phlox. Use in bare shaded spaces that need to be filled.
