Wild Columbine

Aquilegia canadensis - With its bell-like flowers, Wild Columbine or Eastern Red Columbine, attracts a variety of early pollinators since it typically blooms in the spring here in Georgia. It thrives on the edges of woodlands making it a perfect addition to a shade garden. While its not a medicinal plant, it is a native plant important for pollinators and a host plant of the Columbine Duskywing butterfly (Erynnis lucilius) and the Pink-Tinted Beauty (Eosphoropteryx thyatyroides).

Tip: Since it does well in the shade, Columbine is great for a shade garden, woodland setting, or naturalized areas. It combines well with Wild Ginger, Wild Geranium, and Foamflower.
