Virginia Bluebells

Mertensia virginica - A beautiful, hard to find, woodland perennial that grows best in dappled sunlight, Virginia Bluebells are a source of early season nectar for pollinators like long-tongued bees (bumblebees), butterflies, skippers, hummingbird moths, flower flies (syrphids), bee flies, and hummingbirds. They have blue trumpet like blooms and are self-sufficient through the spread of their underground rhizomes. Deer and rabbits avoid them.

Space 12 to 18 inches apart.

Tip: Place them in a dappled shade border or around perennials that will bloom after these have died back.
