Valerian
Valeriana officinalis - A flowering perennial often known for its medicinal properties in the roots, Valerian, comes from the Latin word valere meaning “to be strong and healthy”. The plant can grow 5 feet tall and in the early summer blooms small pale pink or white flowers. The flowers have a sweet aroma similar to vanilla and attract pollinators for their nectar. Most people use the roots to help promote sleep or relaxation through teas, tinctures, or capsules.
Plant 12-18” apart.
Tip: Valerian makes a good companion plant alongside echinacea, hummingbird mint, catnip, and dill.
