Summer Savory
Satureja hortensis - An annual herb related to winter savory which is a perennial, Summer Savory, is less bitter than winter savory but has a strong flavor like oregano. It’s often used when cooking green beans and in the French seasoning mixture, herbes de Provence. Summer Savory attracts beneficial insects to the garden and pollinators love it.This is a low growing plant that is from the mint family.
Space 12 inches apart.
Tip: Good companion plants for summer savory include beans, melons, onions, garlic, and tomatoes. The fresh leaves can be used to garnish fresh salads, in egg dishes, beans, lentils and mixed with breadcrumbs as a topping. In its dried state, it can be found in a variety of spice blends.
