Plantain

Plantago major – Often dismissed as a common yard weed, Plantain is actually one of the most useful medicinal herbs you can grow. This hardy perennial forms low rosettes of broad, ribbed green leaves with slender flower spikes that rise through the warm season. It thrives in a variety of soils — even compacted Georgia clay — making it incredibly resilient and easy to maintain. Every part of the aerial plant, especially the leaves, has a long history of traditional herbal use.

Space 8–12 inches apart.

Tip: Plantain is best known as a go-to “first aid” herb. Fresh leaves can be chewed or crushed and applied directly to minor cuts, scrapes, stings, or bites as a quick poultice. It can also be infused into oils and salves or brewed into tea to support digestion and respiratory health.
