Oregano

Origanum vulgare – A tried-and-true perennial herb, Oregano (also known as Wild Marjoram) is a favorite whether you’re growing for culinary or medicinal purposes. Botanically, Wild Marjoram and Common Oregano are the same species, Origanum vulgare, though “wild marjoram” is often used when referring to its ornamental or pollinator-friendly qualities. With its aromatic leaves and clusters of pink to purple flowers, Oregano not only adds bold, earthy flavor to your kitchen but also attracts bees and butterflies when in bloom.

We carry Common Oregano (Wild Marjoram), Greek Oregano, Wild Za’atar Oregano, and Sweet Marjoram. The planting details are similar for all of them, though Sweet Marjoram has a slightly milder flavor and more delicate growth habit.

Space 8–10 inches apart.

Tip: Add this to herb container pots on patios or give it a dedicated section in your herbal garden to shrub out. We love planting it at the front of a garden bed since it’s low-growing and fills in beautifully as a fragrant groundcover.
