Marjoram, Za’aatar

Origanum syriacum

Also known as Syrian Oregano or Bible Hyssop, Za’atar Marjoram is a fragrant, low-growing herb native to the Mediterranean and Middle East. It has a more robust, earthy flavor compared to Sweet Marjoram, with hints of oregano and thyme, and is a key ingredient in the traditional Za’atar spice blend. It forms a compact, mounding shape and blooms delicate white flowers in late summer, attracting pollinators.

Space plants about a foot apart.

Tip: Besides adding to your herb garden, try planting Za’atar Marjoram along pathways or in rock gardens where its aromatic foliage can be enjoyed as you walk by.
