Indian Pink
Spigelia marilandica – A striking native perennial with deep green foliage and vivid red tubular flowers tipped with bright yellow stars, Indian Pink is a true showstopper in the shade garden. Blooming in late spring to early summer, this southeastern woodland native is especially beloved by hummingbirds. While historically referenced in early herbal traditions, Indian Pink is potent and not recommended for home medicinal use today. It is best grown for its ornamental beauty and ecological value in native landscapes.
Space this plant about 12–18” apart.
Tip: Indian Pink thrives in rich, partially shaded woodland settings. Plant in groups beneath trees, along shaded borders, or paired with ferns and other native perennials for a vibrant, hummingbird-friendly display.
