Great Blue Lobelia

Lobelia siphilitica - This is the blue counterpart of our favorite Red Cardinal Flower, Great Blue Lobelia is a showy perennial that produces stems of flowers up to 5 feet tall. It’s most desirable for woodland gardens since it does well in part-shade and blooms late summer, early fall, adding some color to an often spent garden. Similar to Red Cardinal Flower, this does well to help prevent water erosion and thrives in a marshy, wet woodland area. It also attracts many beneficial butterflies and hummingbirds.

Space 8-12 inches apart.

Tip: This is a great plant to plant along woodlines, wet banks, or marshes since it prefers moist soil. Similar to Red Cardinal Flower, if you have issues with water erosion, this is a great plant to help prevent that. You can also plant in rain gardens or creek bed areas.

Great Blue Lobelia is toxic to humans and pets
