Fennel, Bronze

Foeniculum vulgare ‘Purpureum’ - With its feathery, smoky bronze foliage and sweet, anise-like fragrance, Bronze Fennel is both a dramatic and functional addition to the garden. This tall, airy herb produces golden umbrella-shaped flowers in summer that glow beautifully against its deep purple leaves. A favorite of pollinators—especially swallowtail butterflies, whose caterpillars feed on its delicate fronds—Bronze Fennel supports both beauty and biodiversity. The leaves and seeds are edible, bringing a subtle licorice flavor to teas, roasted vegetables, seafood dishes, and herbal blends.

Space plants about 12–18 inches apart.

Tip: Beyond the herb garden, Bronze Fennel makes a stunning backdrop in flower beds. Its tall, wispy texture and rich foliage color pair beautifully with echinacea, yarrow, and other sun-loving perennials for a pollinator-friendly display.
