Echinacea

Echinacea purpurea - The ever-popular native perennial and medicinal herb, Purple Coneflower or Echinacea, blooms mid-to late summer and sometimes again in the fall. The tall striking flowers are a favorite nectar source for butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds. In the late summer, the large seed heads attract Goldfinches and other birds. From the leaves to the roots, the plants are also widely known for their medicinal benefits.

Many species are threatened or endangered due to habitat loss or over-harvesting so this is why we like to grow our own in our gardens to harvest.

Space plants 18-24 inches apart.

Tip: We like to make teas out of the flower and leaves to help boost the immune system since Echinacea is loaded with antioxidants. Just steep the leaves or flowers in hot water for 5-7 minutes.
