Clitoria ternatea – A tropical flowering vine native to Southeast Asia, Butterfly Pea is beloved for its vivid blue, butterfly-shaped blooms and vigorous climbing habit. This heat-loving plant thrives in warm Southern gardens, quickly covering trellises, fences, and arches with lush green foliage and striking flowers. It’s a favorite among pollinators and a standout in edible landscapes. The blossoms are rich in antioxidants and are traditionally brewed into herbal teas known for their brilliant blue color that transforms to purple with a splash of lemon. Beyond its beauty, Butterfly Pea has been used in herbal practices to support cognitive function, skin health, and overall wellness.

Space 18–24” apart.

Tip: Provide a trellis, arbor, or fence for support and pair with other sun-loving plants like roselle, lemon balm, or ornamental grasses. In a cottage-style garden, combine with warm pinks, purples, and whites for a vibrant pollinator haven. Regular harvesting of blooms encourages continuous flowering throughout the warm season.
