Wellness in the Wild: Why We Go Outside to Come Back to Ourselves
Somewhere between the sound of boots brushing against pine needles and the quiet drip of mountain water down stone, I remembered what I already knew:
Wellness doesn’t begin in a bottle.
It begins with the land.
This fall, I traded routine for rhythm, cell service for silence, and my kitchen counter for a trail packed with unexpected herbal allies. Wellness in the Wild is a journey back to the root of it all, to wild-grown plants, simple tools, and ancient wisdom hiding in plain sight.
Why the Wild?
Because out here, the medicine isn’t just in the bottle - it’s in the way you walk, notice, pause, sip, breathe.
It’s in the goldenrod that waved at me on every overlook, offering its anti-inflammatory magic and allergy support. It’s in the pine needles underfoot and on the trees, high in Vitamin C, perfect for tea and trail-side immunity. It’s in the choice to pack a Field Armor tincture or to mix oxymels into a campfire mocktail instead of a plastic sports drink.
Every step was a reminder that herbalism doesn’t belong only in apothecaries. It belongs everywhere we remember to look.
What You Can Expect From This Series
Over the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing:
What I Packed in My Trail Apothecary Kit
How to take herbal support with you - Field Armor tinctures, immune-boosting oxymels, and calming plant allies you’ll want in your backpack.
Medicinal Plants I Found Along the Trail
Goldenrod, wild aster, Japanese knotweed, blackberry leaf, pine, lichen... We'll explore what’s medicinal, what’s metaphor, and what to simply admire with gratitude.
Campfire Mocktails with a Medicinal Twist
Who says wellness has to be boring? I’ll show you how to make simple, powerful drinks in the backcountry using PW’s oxymels and trail-foraged accents.
Each post is part field journal, part guidebook, and fully rooted in Planted Wellness’s mission to help you cultivate wellness - whether that’s in your backyard or deep in the woods.
Your Invitation
This series isn’t just about what I found. It’s about what you can reconnect with. Maybe it’s the weeds growing near your driveway. Maybe it’s the mug of tea you drink more slowly tonight. Maybe it’s simply a new way to see the land you already walk.
So brew a cup of something earthy. Crack the window. Breathe deep.
Let’s remember, together, that the wild is not so far away.
