Bergamot, Lemon

Monarda citriodora – Lemon Bergamot, also known as Lemon Bee Balm or Purple Horsemint, is a citrusy-scented native wildflower with whimsical lavender blooms that stack like mini floral towers. A pollinator favorite, it attracts bees, butterflies, and even the occasional hummingbird—while helping to deter pests like mosquitoes with its strong, lemony fragrance.

This drought-tolerant herb thrives in full sun and sandy soils, reseeding itself for seasons to come. Medicinally, both leaves and flowers can be dried and steeped into a refreshing tea traditionally used to ease colds, calm the nerves, and support digestion.

Plant 10–12 inches apart.

Tip: Plant Lemon Bergamot around veggie beds or garden borders to attract pollinators and enjoy its fragrant presence. To use, dry the flower tops and steep in hot water for 5–10 minutes.
