Basil, Purple
Ocimum basilicum - With its deep purple leaves and bold, slightly spicy flavor, Purple Basil is as striking in the garden as it is on the plate. The vibrant foliage adds a pop of color to herb gardens, while its rich, slightly clove-like taste makes it a great addition to pesto, salads, and infused vinegars. In late summer, it produces delicate pink or lavender flowers that attract bees and other pollinators.
Space plants about 12-18 inches apart.
Tip: Besides adding to your herb garden, Purple Basil makes an eye-catching garnish and a beautiful base for herbal teas and flavored oils.
