Aster, Swamp

Aster-Swamp-Image

Symphyotrichum puniceum - Often found in soggy thickets, Swamp Aster, lives up to its name by preferring wetter soils. It can be nearly as tall as New England Aster with similar flowers and also bloom late in the summer, early fall. So don’t mistake it for a weed! Pollinators love this and rely on it for a source of fall nectar.

Space 1-4 feet apart.

Tip:  Swamp aster pairs well with New Jersey tea, dense blazing star, and blue vervain. We love to plant it in rain gardens, pond borders and stream banks, the rear of mixed beds, moist meadows, and naturalized and butterfly gardens.
