Ashwagandha

ashwagandha-image

Withania somnifera - A herbaceous perennial shrub, Ashwagandha is a resilient, easy to grow plant hosting a range of benefits including helping to strengthen the immune system, reduce stress, and help support a restful nights sleep. The roots of the plant are used most commonly in medicinal medicine. In our zone we are right on the line of having it grow as an annual or perennial so we recommend a heavy mulch to grow over winter.

Space 1-2 feet apart.

Tip: You can blend the dried roots into a powder to add to smoothies or chop the dried roots to use in herbal teas. Ashwagandha leaves can be cooked like spinach or used to salads. Ashwagandha leaves that have been dried can be used to produce tea or capsules.
