Alfalfa
Medicago sativa - Alfalfa is a herbaceous perennial that acts as a wonderful soil cover providing nutrients and nitrogen to the soil. If an area of your garden needs some soil repair, this is perfect to plant and let that area rest for a bit. You can also make an “alfalfa tea” to feed your garden as a natural fertilizer. It’s been used as feed for livestock for hundreds of years because of its superior protein, vitamin, and mineral content. You can also dry the leaves to use in herbal teas. Alfalfa may help lower cholesterol, help support arthritis, and act as a blood sugar lowering agent. Additionally, pollinators love this plant!
Tip: Once your Alfalfa blooms you can cutback and leave the cuttings to decompose this a way to amend your soil
